The business model of the PGNiG Group

The PGNiG Group’s Exploration and Production segment focuses on exploration for and production of natural gas and crude oil, as well as on providing geophysical and prospecting services in Poland and abroad. The segment’s activities encompass all the steps involved in producing oil and gas, from geophysical surveys that precede prospecting work, through production, to making the product ready for sale. Currently, work is under way to evaluate the potential of unconventional shale gas deposits.

The Trade and Storage segment is responsible for purchasing and reselling gas fuel coming from imports and PGNiG’s own sources. To support these activities, the PGNiG Group operates its own underground gas storage facilities. The segment’s business also includes electricity trading.

The Distribution segment’s business consists in delivering gas to end users (mainly households), as well as operation, maintenance and development of PGNiG’s 123,000 km long distribution network.

The Generation segment’s activities consist in generation of electricity and heat from coal and biomass. Planned investments in the segment will extend the range of fuels used for generation to include natural gas.
