The storage facilities accommodate the surplus gas volumes from the system during the summer season and provide supplementary volumes to the system in winter. Currently, the company has seven gas storage facilities with the total working capacity of 1.63 bcm, which represents 12% of the yearly gas consumption by the customers of PGNiG. On a daily basis, this corresponds to 45 days of storage consumption. The development and expansion of storage capacity is a key element of the business activity of the PGNiG Group. Not only does it lead to improved security of gas supply, but also strengthens the competitive position of the company in liberalised gas market. By the year 2015, the company plans to increase the existing storage capacity up to the level of around 3.8 bcm.
